The Pink Girls Run The World (PGRW) movement is all about using our platform to reinforce
the voices of women around the globe in a way that not only supports, but empowers all women. In a world where women are still striving towards gender equality, we can’t afford to lose our energy working against each other. As a part of our ongoing celebration of women who create changes in the world that inspire and empower other women, I sat down with author and “Successful In Pink” founder, Ashley Murdock.
Based in the DMV area, Ashley Murdock is Certified Holistic Coach with clients all over the world. Working as an accountability partner through her coaching services, Ashley helps women define and navigate their wellness journey as well as make sure they stay true to themselves and to their goals.
PGRW: Can you explain what being "in the pink" is and how it is the key to happiness?
Murdock: To be “in the pink” means to be in good health. In my opinion, being in good health means achieving wellness holistically across all aspects of life (mental, physical, financial, and spiritual). Happiness is a sense of well-being, a state of mind that exudes positivity, love, joy and contentment with life. I feel that the key to achieving happiness is being “in the pink”. Take time to define what happiness means to you and what aspects of your life need to change in order to achieve happiness.
PGRW: I love how you empower women to end their love affair with dieting and take control of their health. What inspired you to launch “Successful In Pink” to help women to take inventory of their lives and identify the strong life choices needed to achieve success in mastering self-discovery, self-care and self-healing?
Murdock: I had a love affair with dieting where I was addicted to trying new and exciting diets that I thought would lead to lasting happiness. I went into every diet with this fantasy that after x days I would lose x amount of weight and finally love myself. I eventually learned that dieting wasn’t leading to lasting change. When I was on a diet I had to stop eating foods that brought me joy, I was using a one-size fits all approach that wasn’t working for my body and I was trying to stick to unrealistic food and workout commitments. I started to take inventory of my life to discover what happiness means to me. Happiness means to love myself fully. To achieve that, I had to heal my relationship with my mind, my body and my plate. Through my own struggle I was able to find my purpose and passion. I started “Successful In Pink” to empower women to end their love affair with dieting and take control of their health. During my coaching sessions, we work on developing habits and setting realistic goals that lead to lasting change.
PGRW: Having an accountability partner has been instrumental in my success in accomplishing the business goals needed to launch the Pink Girls Run The World movement. How pivotal is the role of an accountability partner in one's wellness journey?
Murdock: Guiding you through your wellness journey in a way that empowers you to stay committed, an accountability partner is crucial to achieving your wellness goals. As you are on your journey to achieving health and wellness sometimes you may procrastinate, come up with excuses, and let life get in the way. Your accountability partner makes sure these things do not happen.
PGRW: What is one of your favorite places to travel to?
Murdock: One of my favorite places to travel to is the Virgin Islands. I grew up in California; so I love any location that involves a beach, relaxation and sunshine. The Virgin Islands has so many islands to explore. I love to island hop and visit the different beaches. I have visited St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Maarten. Traveling to tropical locations gives me time to disconnect from the world and focus on reconnecting with myself and strengthening my connection with my partner.
PGRW: What is the best piece of travel advice that you have received?
Murdock: The best piece of travel advice I have received is to pack an empty duffle bag or tote with a zipper to put souvenirs, artwork, etc. It's always good to have an extra bag you can check for your return flight.
PGRW: Where can we pick up a copy of your book?
Murdock: Health Coach Collective can be purchased at www.successfulinpink.com.
