How are choosing to invest your time & energy? I recently stumbled across a meme that read “Just like social media has algorithms to give you more of what you’re interested in; life has an algorithm that gives you more of what you’re thinking, focusing on & INVESTING time into.” I often find that the first step may simply be about taking the time to show up and be present. This could apply to showing up for yourself, as well as showing up for others.
Featured on "The Pink List" found here on PinkGirlsRunTheWorld.com, The Pembroke offered us the perfect pink location for our 5th PGRW “Pretty in Pink” Brunch meetup last Saturday in Washington DC. Formerly Café Dupont, the art deco inspired restaurant that is located inside the Doyle Collection property has a seasonal terrace that overlooks the bustling Dupont Circle. The perfect place to grab a glass of wine during the 70-degree heat wave that swept through the DMV area on a January afternoon.
As a part of the redesign, interior designer Martin Brudnizki updated the restaurant with plush blue velvet semicircle banquettes, cute coral couches, bold brass light fixtures and hardware paired with marble tabletops. It is no coincidence that we chose to celebrate at a hotspot that is known for their floral-infused Rose Petal Martini. Dressed in a pop of pink to pay homage to “The Pink List” (click here to read more about how “The Pink List” started), we couldn’t wait to prop ourselves up on the coral leather swivel barstools in front of the 36-foot marble top bar decked out with gleaming gold barware.
Pembroke Chef, Marlon Rambaran, is a Trinidad native who grew up in my home state of New Jersey and went on to learn his way around the kitchen in restaurants like Philadelphia’s Le Bec Fin and Scarpetta by Scott Conant in Miami. Rambaran works closely with local farms and purveyors to source the best organic and sustainable ingredients for his global influenced dishes. Quality that you taste immediately from the very first bite.
We laughed over glasses of sparkling rosé selected from their 30 bottle wine list. Keeping in mind that with networking it’s more about what you give than what you get; we chatted about everyday life, projects that we are working on and the value of making genuine connections. At one point, the conversation shifted towards how people support the initiatives that you are working on differently. When I questioned whether other women had noticed more support from acquaintances than those closer to them; one woman made a good point about being mindful in acknowledging people that show up in different ways IRL, not just in the ways that we want them to show up at one particular moment.
