I’m all for thinking outside the box, but I’m all in when it comes to a certain “blue box.” I was 23 years old when I received my first Tiffany bracelet packaged in a signature “Tiffany Blue” box. I was working at a NYC fashion
& beauty PR firm that gifted all of the assistants with beautiful silver bracelets for the holidays. While I was often called upon to run out to Tiffany & Co.’s Fifth Ave flagship store to scoop up expensive jewelry pieces tucked behind glass cases for client “appreciation” gifts, there was something extra special about receiving my very own blue box (I’m also a sucker for fabulous packaging).
The movie, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” debuted 59 years ago, but the high-end jeweler unveiled it’s fourth-floor eatery, the Blue Box Café, in 2017. Based on a Truman Capote novel, Hepburn’s character in the Oscar winning film window-shopped at the Fifth Avenue emporium in New York City while sipping coffee and munching on a croissant. I decided to pay homage to Hepburn during my 1st visit to the café by wearing all black, just like she did in the film (I chose a black dress with a pop of blue for my 2nd visit). Shutting down the urge to open my Uber app, I decided to hail a taxi for my 2nd brunch visit to the iconic location and blurted out "Tiffany's on 5th, please," like I was in a remake of the film.
Based on American classics made with the high quality, regionally sourced ingredients, the simple menu offered a refined take with a unique Tiffany twist on signature New York dishes. The sour cherry-cranberry jam deliciously complimented the honey butter spread and paired well with our floral infused Tiffany Tea.
In between nibbles, I couldn’t help but think about how Audrey Hepburn would salivate over the fresh buttery croissants.
While I’ve always dreamed of having Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the experience took what I had envisioned to the next level in a setting that was as inviting as the food was inspiring. Making it that much easier for this Pink Girl to easily transition into a “blue babe” for the afternoon; as Tiffany’s signature robin’s-egg blue was everywhere — on the chairs, on the plates, on the walls, on…EVERYTHING! Tables adorned with bone china and Tiffany sterling silver elevated the luxury dining experience). The "Blue Box Celebration Cake" was the highlight of the afternoon and at $59 it was worth every single scrumptious bite!
Known for the 30 DAY wait list, Blue Box Café reservations could only be made through the Resy booking app. Having fabulous friends that were willing use their night owl skills to stay on top of the booking process was DEFINITELY a cause worthy of celebration!
Closed until 2021, I’ll always have the great moments with friends at the restaurant was located inside the Tiffany & Co. store on NYC’s Fifth Avenue in New York City, which has relocated to Sixth Avenue while the store undergoes renovations. In meantime, I hope to visit the café’s London or Hong Kong location to indulge my “Blue Box” brunching fix.
