Let’s be real, often times the kind of travel that we try to cram in our camera roll for “the gram” isn’t always the kind that nourishes our souls.
If you’ve ever come back from a “bucket list” trip still feeling a little...off and underwhelmed? You’re not alone. That’s because the most impactful journeys don’t come from checking off landmarks—it comes from diving into the heart of the culture, slowing down, and reconnecting with yourself.
The Power of Sacred Siwa
As a tour group of women over 40 craving more than the typical Egypt travel itinerary, Siwa was the perfect location for healing sisterhood and deep cultural connection. Tucked away in Egypt’s Western Sahara Desert, far from the chaos of Cairo and the touristy Nile cruises, Siwa Oasis is where ancient Berber traditions still thrive, where the stars light your path, saltwater lakes restore your spirit and silence feels like a soft hug for your nervous system.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore the Pyramids of Giza and the balconies of grand hotels floating above the Nile, but the raw realness of Siwa is unmatched when you are looking to experience Egypt off the beaten path.
With every journey, I’m learning that the best travel doesn’t have to drain you—it transforms you. The kind of reboot that goes beyond hotel lobbies and touristy shops.
What Siwa Showed Me About Living, Listening, and Letting Go
1. Say yes to slow.
Let yourself be instead of do. This one was really challenging for me, but everything shifted once I released myself from the cycle of “doing” and checking off the itinerary. There’s no rush in Siwa. Mornings are for lounging by the pool. Afternoons are for walking through palm groves. Evenings? Stargazing and soul-searching.
2. Engage, don’t just observe.
We didn’t just visit—we connected. This is how you build bridges and find pieces of yourself in someone else’s story. We chatted with local artisans and shared stories with fellow diners in cozy, family-owned restaurants. Our driver, invited us to his home.
3. Show up with heart and humility.
Siwa welcomed us with warmth. But the real magic? It came when we listened. When we came as guests who embraced the culture, not consumers. Siwa house video.
Healing Meets Heritage: Siwa’s Quiet Luxury
You won’t find chain hotels or commercial chaos. Instead, you’ll discover:
Saltwater lakes known for their restorative powers (salt concentration is more than 95%)
Healing natural springs (like Cleopatra’s Spring, a stone pool dating back to the 5th century BC, where Queen Cleopatra herself is rumored to have bathed)
Stargazing nights where silence becomes spiritual
Women-led coops creating handmade crafts
This wasn’t a typical “luxury” vacation and as women of color, we deserve more than cookie-cutter getaways. We deserve rest, deep experiences that ground us, sisterhood, and space to just BE. Thank you Siwa for giving us ALL of that—and more. And honestly, that is the kind of luxury that matters most to me. It wasn’t flashy or fancy, but powerful in a way that grand luxury resorts could never replicate.
