I was one of the 1.8 million people who attended Obama's inauguration in 2009. Not even the chilly Washington DC air could keep this Jersey girl from jumping the DC metro and trekking through the crowded mall (wearing Khuraira’s “Lady Obama” lipstick) to witness the historic 1/20/09 swearing in of Barack H. Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America – the 1st African-American ever to hold the title.
While the COVID-19 pandemic prevented me from traveling to DC last week for Biden’s inauguration. After the past 4 years of toxic masculinity and a 2020 detox, I could not let the day pass without celebrating the most diverse cabinet in history, Biden breaking the record for more votes than any other president and the game changing swearing in of the FIRST woman, Black and Asian American vice president.
What better way to mark the occasion than to throw on my chucks, blazer, Shoo Cosmetics Madam VP lipstick and rose gold t-shirt while sipping on something pink! I tried to grab an inauguration themed background from the Biden Harris site at the last minute, but decided to pass when I couldn’t find anything that flowed with my pink themed celebration (Harris is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority).
Although there weren’t any presidential themed ice breakers or trivia, it felt good to take a break from a soul crushing morning of Zoom meetings to celebrate the historic moment with friends virtually. Hands down, we all agreed that Michelle Obama brought the FIRE with the sharpest OOTD and Lady Gaga’s voice was outstanding! I even stumbled upon this perfectly “pretty in pink” playlist online.
