A stretch of coastline on the northern coast of the Salerno Gulf, Italy’s Amalfi Coast is sprinkled with stunning seaside towns built along cliffs that plunge into the jewel toned surf. When I was first introduced to the Amalfi Coast at 10 years old, through my mom’s love of Agatha Christie movies, I had no idea that it’s elevated coastline would one day serve as the backdrop for magical moments that would impact the trajectory of my life. I had already traveled to Rome, Venice & Florence twice by the time I watched “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (starring Matt Damon) and immediately fell in LOVE with the breathtaking coastal views of the Amalfi Coast that were captured in the film. I remember thinking to myself, “and why didn’t I make the trip to Positano while I was in Italy?!”
The most expensive Summer destination in Europe, planning a Pink Girls trip to this hotspot tucked away along the southern shore of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula one week before peak season kicked off made the trip more budget friendly while avoiding the long lines brought on by the crowds of tourists that flock to the region’s Mediterranean climate. We hiked (because the steps in Positano give you no other choice), laughed until our stomachs ached, toured a vertical lemon farm that gave my calves the workout of my life, got a lesson in ravioli making, danced the night away and shed tears with new & old friends. 5 Cities, 6 days, 15 women – this adventure in sisterhood that offered an opportunity to explore one of the MOST beautiful places in the world with so many wonderful women from all walks of life truly was a GIFT! A dream in colors borrowed by the sea, I spent many evenings staring out into the pink sunset from our villa’s terrace thinking “somebody pinch me, how is this my life right now?!”
While it was pricier to stay in picturesque Positano compared to some of the other surrounding villages, I loved how the central location enabled our group to easily get around on foot as well as have easy access to both ground transportation and transportation by sea to visit Ravello, Sorrento, Capri and Amalfi (yup, there is also a town called Amalfi). The trade off was that our Positano villa came with an amazing view and a personal chef that saved us the expense of dining out at restaurants everyday. Our days filled with the turquoise hued Mediterranean, lemon trees at every turn, hidden grottos and flowering wisteria; I will never forget my time spent in the land of Limoncello.
“If bliss could be a color, this adventure would be Amalfi Blue.”
